SKC - In South Korea, the SK Group holding company created the SKC company in 1976. In 1979 it came out on top in South Korea and fourth in the world in the production of tapes for VHS recorders. In the late 1980s, the company became an OEM manufacturer of audio cassettes under the Memorex and Scotch brands, as well as a longtime supplier of products under the SMAT brand. Audio cassette production reached 1.3 billion units per year, accounting for 30% of the global market. In 2012, SKM was still producing compact cassettes.
