Continent / Continente - Continent, a French retail chain founded in 1972, ceased to exist after merging with the Carrefour group in 1999–2000. Continente, a retail chain owned by Sonae Distribuição, Portugal's largest retailer, was previously the Portuguese and Spanish division of the French retail chain Promodès, known in other countries under the Continent brand.
