Memorex

Memorex - Memorex Corp. began in 1961 as a computer tape manufacturer and later expanded to become a supplier of consumer storage media and a major supplier of IBM-compatible peripherals. In 1971, the company entered the consumer media market and launched an advertising campaign, first with the "breaking glass" ad and then with a series of iconic television commercials featuring Ella Fitzgerald. In 1982, Memorex was acquired by Burroughs to bolster its corporate business. The company's consumer business was sold to Tandy. After 1996, the company was split up and ceased to exist, except for its consumer electronics brand.
