Pentax - the Japanese optical equipment manufacturer Pentax Corporation was founded in 1919 under the name "Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co." and produced eyeglass lenses. Until 1956, the Pentax trademark, a combination of the words "Pentaprism" and "Contax," belonged to the German company VEB Zeiss-Ikon. Since 2008, it has been part of Hoya Corporation.
