Tandy - The American company Tandy Leather was founded in 1919 as a leather goods store. By the late 1950s, the company had expanded into the hobby market. Seeking expansion, Tandy acquired several retailers specializing in handicrafts, including RadioShack in 1963. Tandy's strategy was to attract electronics enthusiasts. The product range was reduced, store space was reduced, and most products were manufactured in the company's own factories. By 1990/1991, Tandy was the world's largest OEM manufacturer of personal computers, and Radio Shack was the world's largest electronics chain. In 1991, a company restructuring began, leading to store closures and the sale of portions of the business. In 2000, the company completely dropped the Tandy name, becoming RadioShack Corporation.
