Tower Records - a division of Tower Records USA, was a wholesale distributor of imported records. It opened in Japan in 1979. In 1980, the first store opened, offering the atmosphere of a true American music supermarket, revolutionizing the traditional Japanese concept of record stores. Since 1985, the company has opened stores across the country, primarily in major cities. An official online store has been operating since 1997. In 1995, the Shibuya store moved to approximately 5,000 square meters of retail space and a selection of 700,000 records, making it one of the largest in the world. A complete renovation in 2012, based on the "360° Entertainment Store" concept, added new entertainment cafes such as the "TOWER RECORDS CAFE," event spaces, and concert venues such as the "CUTUP STUDIO."
