Audio Magnetics - was founded in California in the 1960s. The company was first located in Gardena, later in Irvine. Initially, all cassettes (and reel-to-reel tapes) were produced there. By 1970 at the latest, production was outsourced to Mexico. Only the high-end models like the QHF and XHE were still manufactured in the USA. Production in Portugal was also established in the early 1970s, primarily to meet the growing demand for OEM cassettes for department stores and the like; the company's own Audio Magnetics brand was also produced there. The company's European headquarters, however, was in Geneva, Switzerland. Around 1980-82, the European division became independent and continued under the name Euro Audio, but disappeared by 1984/85 at the latest. Around this time, the Audio Magnetics brand resurfaced, with the company address in Driebergen, Holland, and was used for all kinds of cassettes from Hong Kong.
