Norelco - the Philips trademark, used in the US market since 1943, is an abbreviation of "North American Philips [electrical] Company." Since the 1960s, Philips audio and video equipment has been sold under the Norelco brand; since 1980, the company has focused on the production of small tape recorders. The Norelco name was dropped to improve Philips's recognition.
