Elite - A brand of the German department store chain Kaufhof. Founded in 1879 as a shop selling yarn, buttons, fabrics, and woolen goods, the company's name was changed to Westdeutsche Kaufhof AG in 1933. After World War II, the company, now simply called "Kaufhof," expanded through numerous acquisitions, becoming part of Kaufhof Holding and, in 1996, merging with Metro Cash & Carry. In 2008, Kaufhof Warenhaus AG was transformed into Galeria Kaufhof GmbH.
