Kmart - An American retail chain that specialized in discount stores and online shopping. Founded in 1899 as the S. S. Kresge Company, it was renamed Kmart Corporation in 1962. In the 1990s, Kmart was one of the largest retail chains in the world, with 2,486 stores worldwide in 1994. Its product range included clothing, footwear, furniture, electronics, appliances, home goods, and other categories. In 2002, Kmart filed for bankruptcy, and in 2005, it merged with Sears, Roebuck and Company to form Sears Holdings Corporation. In 2018, Sears Holdings Corporation also filed for bankruptcy. Since 2019, Kmart has been owned by Transform SR Brands LLC.
