Novel - a trademark of the Japanese company Fuji Electrochemical Co., Ltd., used for various electrical products, primarily batteries. In 1950, Tokyo Electro-Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. was founded; it began producing manganese batteries under the NOVEL brand. In 1953, the company entered into an alliance with Fuji Electric, and in 1958 the name was changed to Fuji Electrochemical Co., Ltd. Since 2001, it has been known as FDK Corporation.
