Telefunken - founded in 1903 jointly by two electrical engineering companies, Siemens & Halske (S&H) and AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft), Telefunken was a German company specializing in radio and communications technology. Telefunken and its successors produced transmitting and receiving equipment for wireless telegraphy, broadcasting, and wireless and wired data transmission. Telefunken held more than 20,000 patents, played a leading role in the development of radar technology, and invented color television using the PAL system. Since 1941, Telefunken has been a subsidiary of AEG. In 1967, it merged with AEG to form Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft AEG-Telefunken. In 1979, the name was changed to AEG-Telefunken Aktiengesellschaft. After being acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1985, it was renamed AEG Aktiengesellschaft. The remaining Telefunken divisions were transferred to various new companies. AEG AG ceased to exist in 1996. Today, the trademark rights are owned by Telefunken Licenses GmbH, which licenses the brand.
