Toshiba - a Japanese electronics company formed by the 1939 merger of Shibaura Seisaku-sho and Tokyo Denki, but officially renamed Toshiba Corporation only in 1978. In addition to its current operations, it was previously one of the largest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, home appliances, and medical equipment. From 1960 to 2007, it included Toshiba Music Industries/Toshiba EMI.
