Regarding Magnetic Media Korea, the South Korean *Maeil Business Newspaper* (issue dated September 2, 1987) cites 1973 as the founding year of the joint venture established with the participation of the American company Magnetic Media, whereas other historical accounts trace the business's origins back to 1967. Saehan Media was linked to the Lee family and businesses originating from Samsung.
Production of audio and video cassettes began in 1975. In 1980, the enterprise changed its name to Saehan Media. By that time, the company was already developing the manufacture of magnetic media as a distinct business line.
Data on production capacities from 1987 indicated the following:
— approximately 15 million video cassettes per month;
— over 95% of the output was exported;
— clients for OEM products included JVC, Fuji, Toshiba, RCA, and Memorex.
In 1987 establishment of the subsidiary Saehan Media Ireland.
Throughout the 1990s, the company continued to compete with SKC in the video cassette market, developed new products, and sought to expand its operations into audio and video content. In December 1994, *Electronic Times* reported on Saehan Media's plans to enter the music recording, video distribution, and new data storage format markets, including MiniDisc.
In1995 complete separation from Samsung Group.
Following the Asian financial crisis, the Saehan Group faced severe financial difficulties. In 2000, the group filed for financial restructuring. Saehan Media became part of the Cosmo Group in 2010; in 2011, Cosmo Advanced Materials (Cosmo AM) was established to continue operations in the field of recording materials.
However, by mid-2015, the production and sale of audio and video cassettes had ceased.
