Zhengzhou Tape Factory (also known as Zhengzhou Magnetic Tape Factory) was a Chinese enterprise located in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Originally established in 1966 as the Zhengzhou Film Factory - a manufacturer of industrial magnetic recording materials - the Zhengzhou Magnetic Tape Factory is one of China's oldest specialized chemical enterprises.
"ZZZ" is an abbreviation standing for *Zhengzhou Zào* ("Made in Zhengzhou"), where *Zhengzhou* is the city of manufacture and *Zao* means "made."
In 1984, the factory became the first Chinese manufacturing enterprise to implement Japanese cassette assembly lines (possibly manufactured by TDK) and production technologies.
A 1987 publication reported that the Zhengzhou Tape Factory had created high-quality products through collaborative technical efforts.
In 1987, the company entered the international market, exporting products to the Soviet Union, the USA, Hong Kong, and Macau.
In late 1988, the factory was reorganized into Zhongzhou Sanzhi Tape Group Inc., with ZZZ-brand audio cassettes serving as its primary product.
In 1991, the Zhengzhou Magnetic Tape Factory and the Hong Kong-based Huixing International Co. Ltd. established a joint venture, Zhengzhou Sanzhi Tape Co. Ltd., to manufacture VHS video cassettes.
The factory was declared bankrupt in late 1998, and bankruptcy proceedings concluded in mid-2000.
